The Ulema Council said it had awarded Bin Laden the title of "Saifullah", or "the Sword of Allah".
The Pakistani religious affairs minister said that he hoped to go to the UK soon to help "clear misunderstandings" about the Rushdie affair.
He said earlier this week that extremists could justify suicide attacks because the knighthood insulted the Prophet Muhammad.
Given that this award to Bin Laden is a clear affront to British ideology, I trust that Margaret Beckett will soon be announcing the green light to perform suicide attacks in Pakistan.

(No connectiuon with your posting, but I'm repeating a comment I added to a thread in my own blog, which I hope you many see in due course)
As you don't seem to have an email contact address on your blog, it's difficult to get messages to you (or to include you in round-robin emails).
Anyway, so far it seems that of the relatively few people who have responded to the various to-fro messages that have bounced around in the past few days that the details look as if they will be:
Date: Wednesday 27 JUN
Time: probably sometime after 6pm (6.30-7pm?)
Venue: probably Cloisters
Other places mentioned have been Whighmams (not favoured by Mr Eugenides, although he might not be there anyway), and Teuchters.
If I hear anything further of significance I'll post another message here.
As for me, I don't know Edinburgh particularly well as I haven't lived there since I was a young child and visited only infrequently thereafter. I hope to be able to make it no later than about 7pm, depending on when I get back from the day's activities.

Sadly I don't think I'll make it across as I have other plans on tonight (and a shocking cold but that's another story!).
