It seems Gorgeous George will not be taking on Jack Straw as had been rumoured but rather he'll be taking on Jim Fitzpatrick in an East London constituency.
Tricky one to call I suppose but given his ousting of Oona King last time around, I don't see why George won't overhaul Jim's 7,000 majority this time around.
I hope so, Westminster would be a duller place without him.

Oh dear.am i being sarcastic ?
I have been a voter for 30 odd yrs, have seen the labour government of the 1970's thatcherism of the 80's, blairism 90's to the norty's........ and all you can think of is opponents ? What about agenda, political motives etc ..... I no longer vote because I belong to a party that never gets mentioned, the disingenoused party.
For what its worth, George Galloway puts across a caring face and has taken his share of controversy. Credit to the bloke.
Oh, like the new look Jeff. Stentorian slim black with contrasting writing. Must tidy up my own blog, when I get round to it, and before Will does a Cyber Man 'You-will-be-deleted' on it..
Does it not make you question the guy when he says it was being suspended from the Commons that convinced him to stand again?
He doesn't seem to have any particular ambition to represent the people in East London, just wants a platform to rant on about the middle east.
Don't get me wrong, the guy has a right to air his opinions, but why does he insist on using the House of Commons as a platform for that?
Couldn't he just go on lecture tours and appear on Question Time and leave people with a more locally-focussed MP?
Thanks Julie, I guess this is my rebellious blogging phase where I paint the walls black and find myself won over by populist MPs.
Vanfuertes, I think it's fair to say there are many within Labour who rightly or wrongly enjoy giving George Galloway a good kick whenever they get a chance. The recent suspension seems, to a certain extent, to have been one such example. And I can imagine Westminster is as cut-throagt an arena as one can get.
So no, for George to stand again, I would say I Respect him much more than I question him. The easy thing to do would surely be to Bow out.
I think it's fair to say that when he stood in 2005 he was in a similar position, with a reputation for not wanting to represent his consitutewnts but all about self-promotion. And yet, he won the seat at a cantor. Does that make you question the links between his Middle East 'rants' and the views of large swathes of certain constituencies?
I'm not saying he's some sort of political angel, but he's hacking his way down a rarely tread political path, a jungle path, with people taking shots at him along the way. And yet when he speaks I find myself agreeing with him so for me, personally, I'd rather see him inside of Westminster rather than out of it, but you're welcome to your own viewpoint of course.
My main concern is that we are losing the real unique political firebrands that aren't afraid to speak their mind,. Shout their mind in many instances. After all, why was Robin Cook's resignation speech so remarkable?
Party loyalty and spineless ambition is strangling the level of debate within all parties. I like to think George Galloway (and Denis Canavan and Ken Livingstone) respresent the notion that you don't have to be shimmying up some greasy pole to make a difference.
I totally disagree about Galloway. I never have any desire to see Labour win an election but I would gladly vote Labour to keep that man out of Parliament.
Parliament would perhaps be a duller place without him, but only in the same way that a school playground would be quieter without the local bully.
Touche! That's a great line.
I see him more as the bullied rather than the bully to be totally honest but that's not important right now.
I like the look of your blog Van the Man, especially as you're not blindly backing any one party (though you sound a wee bit anti-Labour there...)
I've added a link to your page.
