Gaud-y Awful

One of the best things about living in Edinburgh is how damn pretty the place is. The flow of buildings up the Mound and Ramsay Gardens to the mighty, world-famous castle, Calton Hill, the Crags and Arthur's Seat out to the East and the Pentlands out to the West not to mention a spattering of low level roofs and Inverleith Park out to the North culminating in a view of the Forth, Fife and, if you're lucky, a bit of the Forth Road Bridge too. Simply stunning on any day of the week.

Why oh why then are plans afoot to bring a great big bloody gherkin to the Edinburgh skyline!?

We already have some fairly brash looking buildings planned for Haymarket and Caltongate. And I saw the other day that Ingliston has a particularly ugly American looking 'thing' planned for 2012.

Edinburgh Council need to concentrate their minds and get a grip here, protect what we have in our capital and not let big business and complacency ruin one of the World's greatest cities.
