A few people have mentioned to me that I have 'musical tourettes' and looking back through blog headlines gone by I can see where they're coming from. Mark Ronson's "Stop Me" has passed through my lips in the past month more often than a can of Duff has passed through Homer Simpson's.
Anyway, putting my melodic illnesses to one side, it's time to turn my attention once again to the interminable battle that is Obama vs Clinton. These two sluggers will no doubt be trading blows for months to come and may even end up just simply leaning against each other, devoid of energy and life, hoping the other one just hits the canvas out of sheer exhaustion.
And the boxing metaphors will be with us no doubt for the next 2 weeks, up until the Pennsylvania primary on April 22nd, as it is the home of Rocky where these modern-day matadors lock horns (and trade insults) next.
Hillary, the heavyweight champion of all things blue collar, has the distinct advantage for now but in the closing rounds I could easily see Obama close the gap. And more.
Democrats surely will see that the longer this nomination contest goes on, the longer John McCain has to look presidential, unite the Republicans and collect valuable campaign cash. The smart, wavering Clinton supporters will surely start to think about taking one for the team and voting for Obama as it is becoming inevitable that Barack is going to be the Democratic nominee by hook or by crook. Of course Hillary will scream bloody murder at any Obama victory. Operation Clusterfuck I believe it was called on MrEugenides' blog, the process whereby incessant legal wrangling ensues until Hillary gets the result she wants and goddam anybody who gets in her way.
No, hopefully the SuperDelegates will carve this one up in Obama's favour and even with this monster in their path ,even with all her 'vast' experience of Balkan conflicts and Northern Irish peace treaties, the Democratic Godfathers will surely be determined enough to slay the beast and give Obama the shot at the title in November. That's right, a unification fight with seasoned brawler John McCain.
So even if Obama loses in Philadelphia, with the money on his side, with the 130 delegate lead on his side, with the super-delegates on his side and with the polling data on his side, Obama is destined to win this Democratic slugfest on points even if he doesn't deliver the knockout blow in one of the remaining primaries.
And who knows, with enough momentum in the next fortnight, come April 22nd it could be Obama who is smiling on the streets of Phiiiiiiladelphia, humm, humm, hoaammmm.... *cue Bruce Springsteen and fade out*
PS I apologise if this blog entry smells a bit like a 13 year old boy. It is, after all, sprayed very heavily with links...
