I've heard from a very reliable and intelligent source that:
" Mike Rumbles & his wife were clapped into the Members' restaurant today. Suggestions that he may have pipped Tavish to the leadership remain unconfirmed, but the rumours are that that is in fact the case."
My oh my, after Glasgow East I didn't think the impossible could happen again. I'm sure we'll find out in the next few hours whether Mike has managed an unlikely win but this would spell disaster for the Lib Dems if it was split in two in such an awkward manner.
Could Tavish Scott quietly and obediently play along to Rumbles' tune?
No, I don't think so either....

Interesting....
...goes back to scanning pages for news of official result.
It was good of Iain Dale to move the Scottish Blogs Top 40 announcement until tomorrow.
It wouldn't have been fair to overshadow the Lib Dem announcement.
I personally thought Mr Dale was giving the mighty Hamilton vs Clyde showdown tonight all the attention but I guess your point makes more sense Ideas...
I think the LD contest has been overshadowed by most things this summer... including Jeff deciding not to partake in Blog Meme.
Can just see it, whoever the winner, lasting legacy:
"To obscurity, and beyond!"
Jeff, IoC all wrong he was moving it for the Livi versus St. Johnston showdown tonight the mighty Clyde had nothing to do with it.
Scott wins, Rumbles is third; behind Finnie, pur-leese! You may wish to question the reliability, intelligence (or both) of your sources... Unless of course, it was just an idle pipe-dream?
What can I say, I was just trying my best to bring some oomph and suspense to the campaign.
Tavish Scott deserves a chance, but I thought he had a particularly insipid and uninspiring campaign.
I know for one that Stephen Glenn won't be happy with the result....
Scott wins (59%), Finnie 2nd (21.3%), Rumbles 3rd (17.9%) according to the BBC ( http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/7581344.stm )
Maybe the clap was ironic?
Insipid and uninspiring? Jeff, these are the Lib Dems... they undoubtedly thought Tavish's campaign was full of "oomph and suspense". Still, perhaps better luck with the other lot?
BTW some quick maths from the BBC website suggests the interesting / alarming / funny (depending on your point of view) fact that the LibDems have only around 4,000 members in Scotland. Wow.
This is close to suicide, I think, unless Tavish has more up his sleeve than we've seen so far.
Finnie or Rumbles would have come across with much more stability and more of, dare i say it, 'a liberal' feel.
As Jeff's not doing it, and as NO ONE HAS INVITED ME(hmmph!) I think I'll fire up a meme response, mainly because I'm so decrepit that i can actually remember most of the events unlike most of you whippersnappers.
So much for the insider tips then
Yes indeed, so you'll be glad to know I've had her taken care of.
No room for second best in this game...
You're darn right I wasn't happy I was hoping at least this would have been taken to a second stage of the count rather than won on the first ballot.
However, I think that the numbers who turned up at hustings did shift away from Tavish I think those that didn't may have been only known about Tavish as that was the media take on it.
One thing I have glad about though is that the discussion was there and even Tavish can't ignore the dialogue on certain issues that was raised. He would do so at his own peril.
A more comprehensive victory than even Tavish's supporters expected. Pure joy as Nats wail and grind teeth as their prospects of a referendum on their independence obsession recede further away! Mad Mike Rumbles was never a serious runner, and all the Cybernats pushing for him only shows how ridiculous they all are.
