I know a lot of people are hoping for it and some are perhaps even already banking on it.
But I am going to stick my neck out and categorically say that this petition is going to grow arms and legs and will significantly contribute to the premature end of Brown's tenure as Prime Minister.
A different Labour leader will address the party's Autumn Conference.
(I will be putting money on it to kick off a series of small, fun political betting in the weeks and months ahead. That's if I can ever get the Ladbrokes website to work!)

I have a fear that you're right. I'd rather see him limp on. Although Daveboy and Cleggy looked too close for comfort, could they possibly hook up as a coalition?

Euros will finish him, People never vote on European issues but see euros as a big by election in which they can "say something"
And that will be "Browbn Go" Aside from straigtforward defections there will be a massive labour stay at home vote, because their instincts will tell them if their party has any chance - not just to win ( unlikely under anyone now) but survive, Brown has to go,
Pre Euros, labour critics casnt nove - they'd be blamed for the result, and know it. So i reckon they will be ultra loyal - want to be seem knocking their psan in on the doorstaps, But they will then pounce, know between the end of the Euros and the September returtn is their only chance to dump the disaster that is brow, Who would be better? - anyine, literally anyone - even a complete diddy
One other possibilty is Brown himself just resigns - my mini instinct is he fakes an illness or family crisis - so as his ego is protected and his "place in history" semi rescued - a big consideration for history man Brown,
Cause he is not thick - must know in his heart if he stays it disaster, disaster, disaster - for the country, his Union , his party and himself

I heard a rumour that some polls in the south had them 5th behind UKIP and the nazis!
Too early for coalition chat, the Lib Dems would (should, at least) feel compelled to buddy up with the biggest party so umming and awwing over it is slightly moot I've always thought.
HP, definitely going to try keeping up the Political Betting. £2 and £3 stakes. I put about 7 or 8 on last night (must be gettinig paid too much!) so I'll put them up as a sidebar soon for a bit of banter.

It is the fag end of Labour and for me, it cannot come soon enough.
