Per The Herald:
John Dickie, head of the Child Poverty Action Group, said: "Too many children in poverty have missed out on free school lunches because their parents worked."
"Alongside the roll-out of free school lunches for all P1-P3 children, this is a major step toward ensuring all our children get a healthy meal during the school day."
It's an excellent policy this one and I'm glad to see that the same man who said he would put Rhona Brankin "against a wall" to make it happen is continuing to ensure the free school meals keep flowing.
Whether the 'historic concordat' remains intact come 2011 is a separate matter but this is a policy well worth paying for, budget cuts or no budget cuts.

There's something unpleasantly gruel-ish about those meals "flowing". The actual policy is a step in the right direction, though.
I have spoken to head teachers about this policy and, whilst they were supportive of the principle, it is coming out of an already stretched education budget.
It is far from a perfect proposal.
