Apparently the Labour MSP for Eastwood has confided in an SNP MSP that he will be standing in the constituency again in 2011 rather than trying to escape after the boundary commission dealt him a hammer blow.Labour heartlands of Barrhead and Neilston are now part of Renfrewshire South which means the constituency should turn blue for Jackson Carlaw next time around.
With Labour not (yet) allowing First Past the Post candidates to stand on the regional list, Ken is making a 'brave' move here in restanding but good on him. It would look poor if he was to cut and run, seeking out a safe seat elsewhere to save his political hind but he's going to take the fight to the people of Eastwood instead and it should make for one of many great battles in the West.
I've always thought Ken was an effective performer and rising star so, in an absence of any real knowledge on Jackson Carlaw, I actually hope he pulls through in this potential last stand.

One year in to a Tory government might see the result buck the current trend.
I doomed him when I tipped him as a dark horse candidate for the Labour leadership last time.
And I agree, if asked to choose between Ken Macintosh and Jackson Carlaw I wouldn't have to consider it for long.
Not sure who you admire most here. Mr Carlaw, although defeated in Eastwood, was returned as an MSP anyway on the WoS list. Not sure of his intentions next time. This link (http://bit.ly/l13YZ) from Wikipedia. (Hope that's allowed.)
But isn't two years a little early to be presuming on any nomination, even for the Labour Party..?
