Jim Devine digs a hole for himself

Jim Devine, MP for Livingston, is to face Labour's "star chamber" as it scrutinises his expenses. It will be interesting to see how he explains the following quotes:

Despite Moran's name appearing on the shelving invoice, Devine would only say of the joinery riddle: "Tony Moran did no work for me in my office."

Asked about the shelving, Mr Devine said: "The shelves are in my London flat, not my constituency office and Mr Moran carried out the work there."

So he flew his mate down to London to do a job for him because "I work in parliament from 9am until 11pm. I don't have a great network of people I can rely on and I have a friend I have known for many years who provides me with things like electricians when I need them."

I wonder how much of that £2,326 of shelving costs relates to flying costs and accommodation for his buddy and local publican Tony Moran?

How does someone fit 66m of shelving into an apartment?

And what exactly does he need it for, his "Presidential Library" as one Labour colleague put it?

Added to the thousands of pounds of mileage claims of which only £60 was handed over to the rightful owner, Jim Devine is well and truly on his way to deselection.

What would former MP for Livingston, the late Robin Cook, make of it all I wonder....

The guy's a liar and crook and should be hooked out of Parliament.
Re his other scam--the £2000 plus for electrical work to his London flat. I know that he met a man in a pub who carried out the work then slipped a dodgy invoice under his door. WHAT HAPPENED NEXT? He couldn't have sent a cheque since the address on the invoice didn't exist. So did he go back to the same pub and pay the man in used fivers?
I haven't heard his account of how he paid the bill---can anyone enlighten me?

Seeing as Robin warned in 2002 that his fellow MPs were heading fast towards an expenses meltdown if something wasn't done to sort it out. He would probably be sadly thinking I knew it.
