I was genuinely going to write this post today and then Scottish Tory Boy went and blew it out of the deep blue water by announcing a shock return to the blogging fold. Ah well, I'll crack on anyway...
There is a plethora of SNP blogs up here in Scotland (of course), varying in quality perhaps but still there nonetheless. Labour are making a much better fist of an online presence with a few new blogs popping up which are all well worth a read and the Greens and Lib Dems are batting on with several established blogs doing their bit.
So why no Tory blogs?
For me, the gap was perhaps filled by Political Dissuasion although it's not an out-and-out Tory blog by any stretch of the imagination and it's gone worryingly quiet of late. Boot and Flogger came and went and Tory Bear will surely lose most of its scant Scottishness now that he is immersed in London-life and busy bringing down Cabinet Ministers. Malc in the Burgh isn't scared of the Tartan Tory tag to be fair, not that he'll thank me publicly for saying it.
But that's pretty much it.
Looking at Iain Dale's recent top referrers the list is chock-full of right-of-centre blogs and Tory MPs but then the Scottish Round Up is distinctly left-wing.
Granted the Tory party north of the border is not the same force as it is down south but I would have thought that it had sufficient members, researchers and activists to make a decent fist of an online presence, particularly when it has 4 left-ish rivals to contend with and reams of 'big Government' policies to counter, not to mention they are on the cusp of being in power at Westminster for a decade or so. The Tory tails should be well and truly up.
Balance in blogging is healthy, necessary even, as every debate needs at least two sides to it so I hope the Tories can get some more blogs on the go before the next election comes around.
After all, it's an awful burden for the prodigal Tory Boy to carry on his own. Is that fatted calf ready yet...?

Thanks Jeff(!)
Delighted to see you have not mentioned the bigot who pollutes the Scotsman forum with his racist anti Scottish bile, and has set up a couple of blogs. He was known as AM2 but now has so many monikers he does not know who he is if the poor sod ever did!
Scotland has moved on. The Scottish Unionist and Conservative party has no credibility in Scotland, and never will have, as they are essentialy anti Scottish. Just look at Camerons posturing over defence. They will slash spending in Scotland if they gain power, we have been there before with Thatcher.
There is now only one logical alternative for Scots and that is the SNP.
Incidentally Tommy Sheridan looks as if he is a pawn, and has been persuaded to stand to split the SNP vote. Surely he has had enough. The establishment have assimilated him. Look for all charges against him and Gail to be quietly dropped.
Pass the crack pipe, Anon.
Here is one for your purusal:

Run by the deputy head of the Stirling University Tory Association. He has been a bit excitable like. Take this nugget about Salmond's visit to the USA:

If he is the face of Scottish Toryism, then fate help us! He makes Cochrane and Hjul look like rabid nats.
There were a couple of Tory blogs I used to visit.
One was "Right for Scotland" which fell foul after the author pursued a hate campaign against a block-head Labour councillor. The author was exposed as a failed Tory candidate. RFS did have some extreme views including calling on muslims to be forced to wear a symbol on their clothes if I do recall.
Then the long defunct "Tenement Tory" who disappeared. His trick with comments was to have a guard on it. When he published your comment he replied with a reasoned comment back along with a mysterious anon comment which insulted you with some swearing in some cases.
Shouldn't you give Freedom and Whiskey a mention? Not a Tory blog but libertarian and the polar opposite views of the dominating big government Scottish bloggers.
BTW I'm not the same anon as the delusional bloke/lady above.
I note that it's only SNP blogs which are "varying in quality perhaps". Enough said.
Totally agree with the Freedom and Whisky shout. Can't seem to link to his blog via RSS which is very frustrating as it is excellent.
Thanks for the tips Aberdonian. I never read Tenement Tory which is a shame as I rather perversely like the sound of his/her style!
Hi Jeff
Have you tried this:
http://freedomandwhisky.blogspot.com/atom.xml
It works on Google Reader and also on Bloglines.
Thanks David, link is now on there.
And sorry it took me so long. I really don't understand the atom and rss stuff and most other blogs standard addresses worked fine.
I thought you were taking some sort of moral stance against blog feeds for some reason!
Cheers!
Jeff,
I think it may be something to do with my blog template being one of the earlier ones, dating back to the pre-RSS days. I seem to remember having to handcraft the RSS/Atom stuff into the template somehow and I believe this causes problems for some readers. Originally it didn't have comments either, nor did many others in the old days.
Old skool, I like it.
Hi, feel free to check out my Caledo-centric blog at http://philosophicalzombie.wordpress.com/
Sometimes rightish, sometimes leftish, depending on my mood. Comments welcome.
