Ah, don't you just love local slogans? Pure dead brilliant. Well, ok, not all of them.
Cumbernauld gets a bad press, since time immemorial it has been voted the ugliest town in the UK when in reality it's actually a very nice place to live.
That niceness is about to get a considerable increase as a simply stunning 10m statue is due to be built for the bargain price of £250,000.
There is a local debate about the location of the statue; town centre vs the outskirts and I have to say I agree with the artist himself:
"An artwork does not need to be slap bang in the middle of a town to be seen as a landmark of that place."
I have been really taken with the design and, wherever it ends up, I'm sure it will look beautiful.

Glasgow's miles better?
cumbernauld is a shitehole though, and when someone from greenock makes fun of your town, its bad news
glasgow's miles better must be the best slogan in Scottish history
I always thought it was Glasgow Smiles Better. Dental capital of Europe? Perhaps not.
It wasn't a slogan but Leith being twinned with Rio de Janeiro was a bit of a masterstroke.
And actually, I only did this post to put up a picture of that statue which I am utterly captivated by, but slogans are fun too...
So will it be recycled burnt out cars recovered from behind the shopping centre they use to make the statue?
The statue IS nice Jeff.
What does the statue represent?
It looks like a lassie with skipping ropes and a toy soldier.
Excuse moi,
Le best-worst slogan for a town surely belongs to the prematurely aborted 'Cote-du-Bridge' campaign for Coatbridge in the eighties, which featured a leaflet with a picture of Monklands Canal and a very nice swan on it. For sheer cheek it took some beating..
