A ComRes poll for the Independent out tonight has the following figures:
Tory - 38%
Labour - 23%
Lib Dems - 23%
Further to this, it shows that Labour would better with any one of the eight alternative leaders suggested in the poll.
So that's the jumping off point going into the Labour Conference for the Prime Minister. How much distance can he put between his party and the Lib Dems after his speech on Tuesday?
Although with Labour being so close to Brighton Pier and his ratings so low, perhaps 'jumping off' isn't the best turn of phrase to use for Gordon...

There goes another Nokia! LOL
Has anyone seen the photo's from the Labour Conference at the Grauniad?
Have a look at them, they're hilarious.
I particularly enjoyed the shot of the half empty hall with not a smile in sight from the rather grumpy looking delegates.
Good photos indeed.
Had to 'borrow' that one you mentioned ;)
That is a very interesting poll .
1# It has the Conservative dropping below 40% yet they have extended their lead to 15% over Labour.
#2 The fact that the Lib Dems are so high (well 23% is good for them) might mean they will in fact take winnable seats away for Cameron. I think (i ken its only a poll) we could be heading for a hung parliament.
#3 The 3 main parties add up to 84% which presumably the others must be on 16% up from 12/13% on a few of the polls..Wonder how much if any of that increase the SNP has picked up ? and we have yet to have our hen night up in Inverness.
Interesting poll, especially after the disaster of a week the Lib Dems have apparently had.
Was there not some Labour clown last week who made fun of a half empty hall at the Liberal Conference?
I'm sure you reported it Jeff.
I wonder how much egg he is currently wiping off his face...
Interesting news about the polls. It would be something to live through one of the earthquakes in politics where the major parties change and there are realignments, such as happened about 90 year ago when the Liberals gave way to Labour.
I've had a look at the Scotland results, for voting intention (so unweighted- couldn't find the a regional result with weighting)
Labour 29%
SNP 26%
Con 14%
LibDem 8%
Green 5%
Don't Know 11%
Wait until conference season is over. The Liberals have been getting a bit of a boost recently, due to extra press exposure. Once Labour and the Tories get their goody-bags will we be in a better position to judge the polls.
